Is the country still conservative?

Ann Coulter had this to say in her latest article published through Human Events. "For the first time in 32 years, Democrats got more than 50 percent of the country to vote for their candidate in a national election, and now they want to lecture the Republican Party on how to win elections. Liberal Republicans have joined them, both groups hoping no one will notice that we just lost this election by running the candidate they chose for us. "

I'm not hearing that little piece of news on any major news networks are you? Maybe I missed it.

Since the election, I've tried my best to tune out the MSM. I'm getting my news from the Internet mostly but on occasion we still turn on Fox News (sometimes CNN just for fun) for a few minutes just to hear the headlines. It has amazed me how the Dems are gloating... really gloating.... at every turn with panels trying to determine why Republicans lost and going on and on with their theories of what we need to do to re-make our party or even as some suggest make the party survive. Pleeeez ... would it be the liberal media we would take our advice from?

I've even noticed on some Christian blogs suggestions to target certain age groups and sectors of peoples in order to regain our power. Nonsense. Our main problem with this election and so many other races was the watered down messages of moderates and so-called mavericks. We need politicians who understand exactly what they believe and that are able to articulate it without backing down! Don't we just need to stick with our conservative values and not waver from them? Not only promoting them in speech but we need to LIVE them. We can't be the ones fighting for less government and then also the ones bailing out every "too big to fail company" that is going under.

Here's the way Rush Limbaugh states it in his response to Andrea Mitchell's question to her panel ... MITCHELL: Is the party over?...Republicans have to resolve their identity crisis....Or should the party align itself with traditional conservatives?

Rush: "We can get women, we can get everybody with a set of core principles that we do not abandon that benefit everybody, regardless the color of their skin or their gender! That was from yesterday, and I stand by that.

We start going after groups of Americans, the middle class, Wal-Mart people and then the Kmart people and let's go get the Starbucks crowd and let's go get this group, Hispanics. Loser -- we just did that! We just did it. The architects of this should be disqualified from running another Republican campaign. Set of core principles that improve life for every human being in the country, and you will attract them, I don't care where they were born, I don't care what their skin color is, what their gender is, what their sexual orientation, none of that. You attract enough of them to win."

Let's get back to the principles that Ronald Reagan not only championed but unapologetically and with a backbone of steel served our nation by:

Principle: Government limits the growth and dreams of the people. Larger government is antithetical to the very nature of a free people.

Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled

Ok folks we stood up and fought for what we believed to be right. We stuck to our principles, our morals, and our ideals. We defended, in the best way we knew how, the Constitution and the founding principles this country was based on. We came up short this time around.

I find myself disheartened that the American people preferred handouts and government intervention to good old fashioned hard work, discipline, and helping our fellow man on our own, and not through government means.

However, I will not be dismayed. I believe this is a wake up call for conservatives and Republicans. This country just voted in a very inexperienced freshman Sen. who according to his record is extremely left in his ideology. However, for that Sen. to get himself elected he had to turn hard right on every major issue. This is a man that ran his entire campaign based on a 95% tax CUT. Now we have discussed the merits of that cut, but the point is he ran as a tax cutter, budget balancer, 2nd Amendment protector. Again I think his record proves otherwise, but the point is he knew he must shift and shift hard to the right to win. He also spent more money than any other candidate in history to get elected 3 times that of what GWB spent.

And when it was all said and done he garnered a mere few hundred thousand votes more than did GWB.

Taking a look around the country at the different referendums that were on the ballots conservatives won big. Even in liberal California Prop 8 passed.

Folks the point is this. We are still a center right country. Our job now is to make sure it stays that way. That this country does not move further left and further down the road of wanting the government to handle every decision. I believe, I truly do, that most Americans do want to be free to make their own decisions and to work hard and enjoy the success they achieve. I just believe they bought the rhetoric over the substance.

I have long stood with McCain on this blog because he was our choice and we needed to be united behind him, but I can now say that he was not my first choice. The field this cycle for Republicans was not very inspiring.

It is time we support and look for candidates that will truly carry our message and articulate it well. When that happens you see real landslides like Ronald Reagan's crushing win of 528-13 in '84. Let's not look for candidates that are safe and in the middle. Let's vote forward candidates that are strong allies to conservatism, to smaller government, to balanced budgets, and strong national security.

The Democrats are going to get their chance to show us what they are made of. I know most of us aren't going to like the results. I don't think most of America will either and we will soon have another opportunity to put conservatives in power. Let's not sit by and squander that chance.

With that note it is time to start looking ahead to 2010 and 2012. Check out Bobby Jindal out of Louisiana, a true conservative who can articulate the message and has radically cleaned up a very corrupt state.

We will survive this time in our history and with continued effort, hard work, and relentless clinging to our conservative ideals we will right the ship.
