Sheep Nation or Goat Nation

Recently in a phone conversation I had with a very close friend of mine as we were parsing some of the recent political hogwash being slung back and forth and bemoaning the possibility of an Obama Presidency she said something like this to me, “well, God IS sovereign and besides we know it all ends badly.”
Me: Are you saying God has this election written down in eternal time and there’s really no choice in the matter?
She: No, I’m just saying we know in the end all things will turn out badly and maybe this is just part of it.
Me: Yes, we know that at the end of time all things will start to go badly and then will end up badly before Jesus returns but we don’t know that this election has to be part of all that. And as long as we have choices to make we must fight for the right choice.
She: Oh, I agree with that I was just thinking if the election goes in the direction of Obama maybe the result is part of the end of days.
Me: If Obama gets elected the end will probably be closer than we know but as long as we have breath I believe it is our responsibility to stand for righteousness. Jesus told us that in the final judgment all the NATIONS (He was talking about nations not individuals) will be called before Him and then separated out --- the sheep from the goats.

So we are responsible as Christians to pray for our nation and do everything possible to make sure our nation goes in the right direction.

“But when the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit upon his glorious throne. All the nations will be gathered in his presence, and he will separate the people as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will place the sheep at his right hand and the goats at his left.
“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world. Matthew 25: 31-34 NLT

My deep desire for the United States of America is that we remain a sheep nation. A nation that follows after the principles our founding fathers lay forth. I personally believe God will end up sovereign ruler over all in the new earth but until Jesus comes back for us, as His children, we must take responsibility to see that our rights as a nation are not stripped away from us. Keep government on the side of the people!

If Obama is elected I am seriously suspect of his motives and his extreme far left views on every level. I believe he is bent on altering so many of the conservative values we hold dear.

Let’s not give up, folks. Let’s not write off this election to God’s sovereignty. Let’s not quit working hard because we have the mistaken theology that His sovereignty overrules our choices. Why do you think He told us to occupy until He comes back? There’s much work to be done.

Side note: Do you know I can’t find in the Bible the word sovereign to describe God except in a description of Jesus and His return... it comes right after we are admonished to fight the good fight of faith and keep the commandments until the return of Jesus.

We live in the greatest land in the world with the most innovative, hard-working, resourceful, business-minded, pioneering people in the world. A Republic-- a state in which the supreme power rests in the body of citizens entitled to vote.

Let’s keep our heads up and keep looking to God to move upon the hearts of all Christians to see the TRUTH. Pray that every Christian and every citizen who holds freedom dear to see the issues clearly.

To quote Gary Bauer: “The bottom line: Do not despair. Don’t buy the Big Media line. It is still a close race and our future is at stake.”

A vote for McCain is a vote against Obama and his radical, socialist agenda.

Remember the words of Senator McCain’s closing remarks at the RNC convention: “Fight with me. Fight with me. Fight for what’s right for our country. Fight for the ideals and character of a free people. Fight for our children’s future. …Stand up, stand up, stand up and fight.”

A side note: Go to The Heritage Foundation ... Leadership for America for conservative political report cards. This election is about many elected officials. We need to be sure we are informed.

Also you can sign up there for a free pocket copy of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.

this is the same conversation i have had with several christian ladies who meet for a bible study and book club. it is so disheartening to hear christians talk this way. but i think it is the easy out and most comfortable. it is not always easy or comfortable to "stand up and fight" for our values. it is a must at this time in history. i don't want to be remembered as the generation that just rolled over and took it. i would like it to be that we were fighters for LIFE and LIBERTY.

LIFE:
(Living things are systems that tend to respond to changes in their environment, and inside themselves, in such a way as to PROMOTE THEIR OWN CONTINUATION.)

LIBERTY:
(Liberty, the freedom to act or believe without being stopped by unnecessary force.)

we are clearly in a fight to continue these rights in our own country.

All I can say is that I am so glad that I am not that ignorant friend.

Marmee: I hear what you are saying that we must fight for our right to life and liberty and our capitalist values. We do that 1)by taking advantage of what we know to be true spiritually in prayer 2) by doing all we know to do naturally... contacting our elected officials to remind them they work for the citizens and making sure we vote our beliefs and getting involved at a local level as we can and feel led. Change should happen on local levels and grow out from there. Never from the Federal level down... that always means more government regulation.

Just to clear up my intent in publishing this conversation with my friend... It wasn't that she was taking the easy way out ... she happens to be quite a fighter... and I felt like she was just using some different words than me. My point was that once we realized we were on the same page we agreed we want to be sure we keep standing for what is right and not to just think it has to end badly now. I hope it didn't come off as I was throwing my friend under the bus. I was just trying to use the conversation to make a point... even though I am sure there are lots of Christians that would write off the election to "God's Sovereignty" and possibly not see that we are to keep fighting as long as we have breath in us.

anonymous: my friend isn't ignorant at all... as a matter of fact she is quite dedicated to God and to her faith. I was hoping to use the conversation as a launching point in case some others were thinking the same thing. Please see my comment to marmee (above)for clarification on my point in publishing this conversation. Hopefully that will explain my intent.

i really didn't feel you were throwing your friend under the bus as i was not either. i love these ladies but i do feel like we still have to do everything possible within our own self to let our beliefs and values be heard. thank you for starting the conversation.

marmee: thanks for sharing in the comments... I'm pretty sure we are all saying the same thing... AND it seems we are all understanding we need to do our part to promote a FREE America so we don't have to end up badly as we know so many other countries will as they have made the choice to denounce Jesus and all things righteous and many of them have even taken up anti-Christ religions. We don't want to slide down that slippery slope unaware or blinded.

America is the greatest nation on earth and we all MUST do our part to keep it that way.

Have a great weekend.

The LORD teaches us how to battle. A lost battle is not a lost war. Pick up where we went wrong and learn.
Our weapons are not carnal but able to pull down strongholds and principalities. Read Psalm149....secret weapons are most high praises and 2-edged sword in our hands (His word...Rhema) Seek Him for ALL battle plans....He is preparing us to rule and reign with HIM when His Kingdom FULLY comes on His return

David,
Thank you for your comment and your reminder that every battle is only part of the overall picture. We will rule and reign (as Believers) when Christ returns. But my prayer is that our nation to be on the side of God when Jesus returns.

Hi, I agree with your post that, we should not give up, it's a sure word. The passage in Matthew 25:31-34 is correctly translated as "He will separate men into two groups" meaning the individuals that make up the nations. This doesn't change my opinion of your post, I just noticed that common error and thought to bring it to your attention.
