Watch Your Mouth

Your words have power. All of them. Not just some of them, not just the ones you say in serious moments of prayer, but all of them. There are certain laws set forth in this world, some natural like gravity, some spiritual like the power of the spoken word.

When God created the earth and everything in it, he spoke it in to being. When Jesus walked the earth he spoke to the storm and calmed it, he spoke to heal the sick, he spoke to raise the dead. He instructed us that if we have the faith and do not doubt and SAY to this mountain be thou cast into in to the sea it shall be done(Mark 23:11). Our words have power.

If you are believing for something don't undermine that by speaking negatively about it. I think most Christians who are believers in the power of faith get this, but I here a lot of people speaking death and negativity in their life and they don't even realize it.

"that scared me to death"

How many times have we heard that phrase or said that phrase.

Until we truly grasp the power of the spoken word we can not fully live out our calling in this life, nor will we be the recipients of all the blessings God has for us. That means all the time, in the face of whatever circumstances we see, when we are believing for something, and even in our everyday speech.

We are in a time of economic downturn in our country, and a lot of people are walking around talking negatively, speaking fear, and failure. I wish they realized how powerful this is, and that they might just be bringing bad times onto themselves. I have decided that I will not speak about my personal finances negatively, I will not speak fear words about my business, or my finances. I have decided not to participate in this recession. We have favor, we are blessed, and we are living under the blessing of the Lord and I am going to align my faith and my words up with the Word of God. I hope you will do the same. You might be surprised at how powerful it is.

excellent, excellent post N.T.! so much of the faith movement (for lack of a better term) is misunderstood, even by it's followers. you cannot pray for what you are believing, and then go around saying what is contrary to that. you just negated your prayers when you do.
David wrote in ps 19:14 "let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, o lord, my strength and my redeemer." you have to line up your confession with your belief & exercise your faith. find a scripture to put your faith on (regarding what you are trusting God for) and let that be what comes out of your mouth to combat the circumstances that are trying to come against you. when you do, you are reminding yourself, God and satan (the god of this world) where you are standing by faith. God's Word will not return to Him void, but will accomplish what it is sent to do - bring about his promises into your life - and turn around your situation, no matter what it may be.
p.s. a great teacher i once had said of the scripture you referenced - mark 11:23 - that Jesus used the word 'say' 3 times and the word 'pray' only once, so saying must be 3 times as necessary or important as your praying. so don't say the problem, but say the promise of God regarding the problem, and watch the Word, written and spoken, work the answer into your life.

Lots of good stuff to think about...but I have a question. That verse you quoted, about the mountain, doesn't it say we have to believe in our heart?? Sometimes I think we go overboard as "confession cops" and get onto people for saying things that they really don't believe. Now, sure, if they're saying the same thing all the time, it's probably because they believe it (whether or not they'll admit it). On the other hand, I see "faith people" going around confessing up a blue streak and wondering why they don't see any results...and it's because they don't really believe what they're saying: it's just a confession formula they've learned. I think it's a two-part deal (and there are lots of different Bible passages to back this up), that we must believe in our heart and confess with our mouth. Just some thoughts...

Gigi-Thanks for the response, lots of wisdom and insight as always.

Rissa- You hit on an important point, but that is a different topic. Of course we have to believe in our heart if we are excercising our faith for something.

My point with this blog was to emphasize the power of our words. I used that scripture as an illustration that our faith is part of it, but our words are also important.

I agree that we can go overboard as "confession cops". However, I also believe that there is power in the spoken word and we are loosing things in our lives when we speak negative, fear words over ourselves.

i don't mean to be controversial - but this point is why i chose the verse from ps. 19:14.
how can one pray (a petition to God) for something one doesn't already believe in his heart is possible to receive from God? what good would his prayer do? God is pleased by faith and responds to His own word, so trying to pray for an answer but not believing it, then speaking the opposite thing to what you prayed for - it just doesn't work that way!

first things first, get into the word & plant it deep into your heart. meditate on it (ponder upon it deeply and continously) so that you can attach faith to what God has promised. then, you speak (or confess) what is the Word of God Himself to activate or speak into existence the promise.
God created all that exists by His spoken word, and He is the author and finisher of our faith. so we follow His example to get results. we call "into being those things that are not" and "we hold fast the profession (or confession) of our faith without wavering: for He is faithful that promised:)". it is really more about our lining up our belief, faith, and confession of His Word! then we just trust Him to bring about the desired results! it is more up to Him than us! but we have to know how to reach agreement with Him to enjoy His convenant to us!
