Ronald Reagan Where Are You?

I've owned and proudly displayed an American flag off and on many of the years we've lived in this house. Although it has been a while since I had one due to the fact I won't fly one that gets ratty on the edges. I bought another one last week with a sense of urgency to hang it before election day. I can't really explain that but I felt a definite need to see it waving in the breeze. I absolutely get emotional to contemplate all it stands for.

Today, I am truly at a loss for words. I know, hard to believe.

It has been a difficult day. I honestly think I'm a bit heartbroken over the results of the election. Is that possible? I know I'm dismayed and discouraged to say the least. I'm doing my best to lay it down at God's feet, knowing He is still on the throne. In my heart I know He will take care of His own no matter what.

Truthfully, I keep picturing the precious faces of my grandchildren. They have gone about their business during this election process and even today with the results known as innocents should be allowed to do. They trust the adults in their life to take care of them. To protect their world. To keep it safe. To make decisions that will increase their chances for success.

I don't believe they are going to grow up in the America our forefathers intended when they penned our beloved constitution. It is hard for me to imagine trying to explain to them how America used her sacred voting privilege to elect a man who promised everything with empty words that will actually take away their freedoms.

Did I say I had no words?

I've read some articles today that say it much better than I ever could.

The American Thinker has an article today with a fairly decent rundown of why McCain lost. You can read it in its entirety but here's an excerpt: "The first thing that needs to be said is this: John McCain is really a Reagan Democrat. He joined the Republican Party in Arizona years ago because people like him (patriotic, military background, self-consciously anti-Communist) had no future in the Democratic Party, and he remained a Republican since then, but anyone who watches his demeanor and speeches cannot avoid the conclusion that this is a man much more comfortable with traditional lunch-bucket arguments and policies than the generally more abstract, data-based analyses favored by Republicans. "

And then there is this from a wise jewish writer:
We Should Know Better
Peggy Shapiro
"I cannot watch television as the world is turned upside down in a religious frenzy over the new "Messiah." On banners, signs, tee shirts, and pins are the single word slogans of "Hope" and "Change." With no earthbound basis, no accomplishments, no proven deeds for belief in the new leader, the devotees of Obamania believe in HIM with the leap of faith that was once due GOD. Among the revelers are many conscientious and well-meaning Jews, who should know better. We should know how a charismatic speaker can promise citizens "hope" and unleash "change" that represses and then crushes. We should know that we have experienced and almost perished as a people as a result of blindly following another false Messiah.

Then there is this by S. E. Cupp and his take on values voters... (by the way where were they yesterday?)
How is it that a prisoner of war, who wrote of finding God at the Hanoi Hilton, who's denounced torture methods on other prisoners of war by Americans, who is pro-life, against gay marriage, an adoptive parent, and a self-proclaimed Christian, is thought of as anything other than Christian? The short answer: John McCain did not do enough to convince values voters he spoke their language."

But, truthfully, a ray of hope lit in my heart when I read Gary Bauer's report today. This man has worked tirelessly for so many election cycles for the conservative family values I hold dear. When his daily newsletter popped up in my inbox, it was like a cool drink of water to my parched brain today. He continues to come up with a positive word. Here is a portion of it...

"I’m sure many of you are depressed and dispirited. I understand. I am down too. But I urge you not to spend your time wallowing in defeat. Some may choose to waste their energy pointing fingers and forming circular firing squads. That’s not what Ronald Reagan did in 1976, and petty vindictiveness does not build up effective coalitions or win elections. We live in a free country.

There will be other elections. In the meantime, there will be major battles over life, marriage, war and peace, taxes, judges and a host of things we can’t even anticipate right now. After 2000 and 2004, the radical Left did not fold up and go away quietly. It immediately redoubled its efforts to defeat us. Leftwing groups organized, raised money, registered voters and, finally, yesterday they succeeded. Will we be as tough and committed as they were? Or will we slink away demoralized and defeated? I have already made my decision. I intend to fight! "
So I'm going to fight! I'm going to hold on to my core conservative values and not let up in the search for the true representations of our party! The defeat of John McCain highlights the fact that we don't need to try to reach across the aisle... we need to stand strong and have some backbone. This isn't the end. We will be back.

Yes, we will!

Thanks for sharing those, Meems.

I, too, have thought of my grandchildren's future and that thought alone is enough to motivate us to keep up the good fight.

thank you, meems, for your keen insight in sharing the aftermath of an election gone awry! i honestly wondered today if i had it in me to look at one more talk show, contemplate one more thought or comment one more word on the state of politics in our USA! i felt like i had been in the ring with the world champion heavyweight and just been sucker-punched & put down for the count. in truth, i didn't even want to get up off the mat!

i couldn't even go to sleep last night. when i finally laid my head down at 2:30 am, i stared in space for two hours before just getting back up to watch more blah, blah, blah til about 7:30. i took a couple of Tylenol and drifted off til about 2:00 in the afternoon. when i awoke, i felt drained, like i had some kind of hangover (i vaguely remember those). i couldn't even bring myself to turn on the tv.

so i went to my prayer chair and started talking to my Father. How, why, and where did we go wrong? didn't we pray? didn't we believe? didn't we have faith? didn't we stand on your Word and do as you command in 2 Chron. 7:14? as i meditated on some scriptures and devotionals, a great peace settled over me. i felt a wonderful encouragement from the Holy Spirit. i will share some of my thoughts, which are strictly from my own heart and not meant to dictate anyone else's own perceptions or take on the outcome.

God reassured me that He always hears when we pray, and that he did acknowledge our petitions which were offered in sincere faith. so how could i know that His will was not done? His plans are for good, not evil - to give us hope in the final outcome. we cannot see into the future with an infinite eye as God can. how can we know what immediate perils there may be for any man holding the office of Presidency of the US? perhaps He was sparing John McCain in his last earthly days for a greater cause? i was reminded that we Christians are not of this world, our citizenship is in the Kingdom of God, and as such, so should be our investment of time and effort. the government we live within, (yes, we are of many nations) is to be prayed for, and we should be about the Father's business. He will take care of His own.

this requires us to walk by faith, not by sight. to build our lives upon His rock, not upon any man or his position of power. our effectual, fervent prayers will avail much - in order that we may live a quiet and peaceable life in a continual surrounding atmosphere that allows the outworking of the gospel in order that all men may be saved. we may be fewer in number (the way is narrow and few there be that find it), but we are mighty in spirit and strength. and since God be for us, we know His grace is sufficient, even for our weakness! now is the time to gird up our loins, put on the whole armor of God, and stand our ground - and having done all the present time demands, continue to stand. Didn't Jesus Himself tell us to "watch and pray"? the battle may look lost right now, but we know the final outcome is victory!

"But thanks be to God, Who in Christ, always leads us in triumph - as trophies of Christ's victory - and through us spreads and makes evident the fragrance of the knowledge of God everywhere". 2 Cor 2:14

I found your mention of hanging a flag interesting... coz I was thinking today about buying one myownself... to hang at half-mast. Seriously!

Thanks ever so for sharing all the encouraging articles. I sincerely hope this has been a wake-up call for Republicans. Democrats are down and dirty street fighters and Republicans always have a hard time against them, coz standing and shouting Marquess of Queensberry rules is completely ineffective.

Hopefully, God isn't quite done with America just yet. I'm actually beginning to loook forward to seeing what He's going to do next.

Have a JESUS-filled day! ^i^

love your new header it reminds me of something?! lol
i was feeling a certain dissapointment after losing the race..but that is normal. but now the determination is stronger...it's not going to happen again. i am going to be more fit, better informed, searching stronger for a true candidate that represents what i truly believe in at the very core of my being. why settle for less than.
i did admire the consession speech from mc cain. maybe he learned a few things from sarah p.

Patricia: the fight has already ensued with the intentions to ram through congress much of their liberal agenda in this honeymoon period of euphoria (post election). The future is up to us!

pilgrim: thanks so much for sharing your experience. It was a tough many hours. I did not turn the TV on but for a few minutes last night to catch the headlines. I refused to watch all the spin leading up to the vote count and post election bliss. We've got to endure it for at least 4 years but we can choose to switch off the button.

Thanks for the encouraging words, too.

Sophie: (like your new pic BTW)I had to look that one up... I'd like to enlist this part of the rule for the libs... establish the three-minute round with a one-minute rest period. Isn't it time for their one minute rest? lol They are quite unified in their agenda of intolerance. Seems the Rep. are always trying to cater to them... they don't cater to us at all.

I sincerely don't think God is finished with America. I just hope America isn't finished with HIM!

Marmee: There is certainly lots of talk among conservatives these last couple of days to weed out all the moderates. I'm all for it. Let's not be fooled again. Here's what Ann Coulter said today, "How many times do we have to run this experiment before Republican primary voters learn that "moderate," "independent," "maverick" Republicans never win, and right-wing Republicans never lose?
