Hope That Doesn't Disappoint

Still puzzled, still reeling, still analyzing the fact that the kool-aid drinking masses are following a man all the way to the White House who can preach with a silvery tongue but with little substance to his words and certainly no record to back them up. So, in contemplating BHO’s rise to power it’s occurred to me that I have never given much thought to his relentless campaign marketing message of hope. Every time I heard it during the campaign I blew it off as part of his election rhetoric. You know, a campaign slogan that sounded nice. It just never stirred me or made me stop and wonder if I wanted his hand-out of hope.

It’s more important to me to find out where a candidate stands on issues and then I look at his character to be sure he has proof to back up what he says. But at this point that is beside the point. What keeps coming to me now is Lord have mercy on us all if the majority of his voters were so desperate for some kind of hope that they fell for his preaching of it without any real answers for it. In other words, it makes me think there are a whole lot of hopeless folks out there. Hopeless spiritually.

There is NOT A MAN on the face of the earth who has the power to pass out true hope. Besides, I’m not looking and no one should be looking to ‘A MAN’ for hope. I’m for certain not looking to ANYONE IN GOVERNMENT for hope. So BHO’s message of hope never lured me with his mesmerizing and eloquent (read: so many lies) words.

There’s only One who can impart the kind of HOPE every one of us needs. There’s only one kind of CHANGE that can make HOPE real in our practical life. CHANGE comes to those with a sincere heart. HOPE comes as a result of a yielded heart to the lordship of Jesus Christ. Our government was fashioned to serve the people and uphold our constitution, not to be our ruler or our keeper nor an institution to impart hope.

4 And endurance (fortitude) develops maturity of character (approved faith and tried integrity). And character [of this sort] produces [the habit of] joyful and confident hope of eternal salvation.
5 Such hope never disappoints or deludes or shames us, for God's love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit Who has been given to us. Romans 5

For some reason, I’ve not thought one single time “we need to remake our nation.” From BHO’s acceptance speech, “I will ask you to join in the work of remaking this nation the only way it’s been done in America for two-hundred and twenty-one years – block by block, brick by brick, calloused hand by calloused hand.” Really?

Granted, some things need to change. But when is that ever not going to be the case? There’s always room for change. Every election cycle promises change. Since when has any one man, seeking one office offered all the answers?

And just what in the world does this mean? Again from his acceptance speech, “For that is the true genius of America – that America can change. Our union can be perfected. And what we have already achieved gives us hope for what we can and must achieve tomorrow.”

Crock. Of. Circular. Words.

There’s a new slogan going around the conservative circles. Keep the change.

Very well articulated, Meems.

When we were in NYC a few months ago, I had an awareness of how BHO's message of hope could be attractive to the masses of people who must grind it out every day in a place like NYC. In fact, our family discussed it at length for days, and prayed fervently that the people of NYC would know that their hope did not rest in BHO.

Just yesterday, Emily and I discussed marketing in political campaigns. Because of an experience I have had in a particular industry, I have a personal disdain for marketing and the unethical and deceptive practices that are often used to manipulate consumers to purchase something they cannot afford but have been led to believe they cannot live without.

I told Emily yesterday that BHO's campaign is the perfect example of deceptive marketing.

Great post Meems. It really does show just how many people need hope and the wrong places/people they put their hope in.

Real hope can not be afforded by any government. You are articulated very well something I had been wondering myself about why that seemingly empty message (to me) resonated with so many.

thougtful post meems. people are indeed in need of hope. that is why they are willing to blindly follow a voice of hope...someone that says it over and over and over again.
